Not our faith

There are numerous reasons why I left Christianity. The journey was 32 years before I finally said, “Enough.” As a black American, it’s simply not our faith. Christianity in America, by and large, was introduced to, and forced upon enslaved Africans. We were not allowed to practice our religions from our villages in Africa. It’s the slave master’s religion, and I recognize it as such. Being told I’m evil, serving Satan, and going to Hell are no longer compelling reasons for me to stay in something that I no longer want. And all Evangelicals have as a bargaining chip/blunt instrument, is Hell. They become petulant elementary school playground bullies, threatening to sick their god on me instead of the time-honored threat to ‘bash my teeth in.’ I’m done. If there is a God and an afterlife, my part in that is between me and the deity. It’s no longer anyone else’s business, and it really never was. I reject the agency of the church over my relationship with the divine.

The election

Well as anyone who knows me has probably been able to tell, I have not supported and do not support the president-elect. Therefore my expectations aren’t very high for our culture during the next four to eight years. We will probably be in another ‘intervention’ sometime in the next two years. The folks on the right are going to continue to fight against marriage equality and the Affordable Care Act. They’ll continue to staunchly support closed borders and the exclusion of certain groups. They’ll be cheering on as we send our young men and women to kill other young men and women in other countries. This is not anything new. And it predates the president-elect’s time in politics. So we’ll have to see after January 20th what parts of the president-elect’s campaign speeches he is actually able to implement and what things can be restrained.

I’ll tell you what I’m going to do, I’m going to keep working and looking after my parents and living my life. I’m going to keep following my path. If anyone has a problem with that, well we’ve seen from the president-elect’s rallies that they are certainly not shy about showing it. And if any of that somehow becomes illegal, I’ll deal with that at that time.

Words to remember

The Wise Martian scene from The Martian Chronicles, 1980

Secret? There is no secret. Anyone with a heart can see the way to live. By watching life, observing nature, and cooperating with it. Making common cause with the process of existence. By living life for itself. Deriving pleasure from the gift of pure being.

Life is its own answer. Accept it and enjoy it, day by day. Live as well as possible. Expect no more.

Destroy nothing.
Humble nothing.
Look for fault in nothing.
Leave unsullied and untouched all that is beautiful.
Hold that which lives in all reverence.
For life is given by the sovereign of our universe.
Given to be savored.
To be luxuriated in.
To be respected.

Chakras and Crystals

chakra-pebbles-blog

I’m not quite sure where to begin. When I was a child we had a huge World Atlas that was nearly front to back pictures and drawings. It had sea creatures I had never heard of and don’t hear much about these days. These are mollusks, crustaceans, and fish that dwell in places like the Marianas Trench at depths requiring a submarine. We saw a few of those after the Tsunami that stuck the Indian Ocean on the day after Christmas in 2004.

In the photo above from left to right:

  • Quartz
  • Tiffany Stone
  • Amazonite
  • Green Beryl
  • Citrine
  • Sessartine Garnet
  • Rhodonite

These are stones that correspond with chakras 7 (Quartz) to 1(Rhodonite).

Chakra is a Sanskrit word essentially meaning “Wheel,” these are thought to be energy centers, points, or nodes in the “subtle” body. (Think conscious vs sub or unconscious mind as an analogy). Certain crystals, and other things in nature function at different frequencies and can help realign the wheels. How long it takes to realign them depends on the person. I recommend meditation, contemplation, prayer, patience, and study as those are what I am doing.

As far as resources go, these are the books I am working with at present:

If you’d like to grab a few stones to get started, I’d recommend starting with one from each category, depending on color:

  • White: Clear or Snow Quartz.
  • Violet: Amethyst.
  • Blue: Lapis Lazuli or Sodalite
  • Green/Pink: Green Aventurine or Rose Quartz
  • Yellow: Citrine, Yellow Quartz
  • Orange: Tiger’s Eye, Carnelian
  • Red/Black: Hematite, Obsidian, Rhodonite, Red Jasper

Try to find a store locally to buy them or shop online.

I cannot overemphasize that this all has to do with intuition and intent. It is not at all what I’d call my main area of expertise. I had very little art or music training. I was one of many kids on what I call the “engineering track” in school. Therefore my left brain has always been a bit overactive. I am working to adjust that.

This is how we used to do things long ago. It’s old knowledge, desperately needed in post-modern times. The ways of doing things of the last couple of centuries are just not working, and I have to wonder if they’ve ever “worked.” We need a return to who we were as a people before the corruption of money and state.

Any information I present is not recommended as a cure or treatment for any condition or situation. Consult and continue to consult your physicians and other professionals with whom you’re working.

‘Socialism’ for real

shutterstock_66506893As the presidential election day approached in 2008 people were moaning about the evils of socialism, and that a vote for then Democratic candidate Barack Obama was selling out the country to socialists. There were many other things said back then, but I just want to hold the discussion to this word, because people’s biases are blinding them to their own socialist attitudes.

So eight years later Bernie Sanders, who over the years doesn’t seem to have changed his positions on how he feels the tax dollar should be spent, is yet another in a long line of “antichrists” leading the country into “socialism.” The thing is, we’re already there, and we have been for over a century.

People on the “Red Right” are just as socialist as the folks they’re busy demonizing, hissing at, and crossing themselves over. Those who identify as right wing, red state, conservative, Republican, or whatever other label you want to use also want to redistribute wealth, just not in the same way as someone like Sanders. They don’t mind a $1,000,000,000,000 in taxes here or there as long as it’s going to bomb countries they think are the baddies.

It’s one dollar. It can feed someone, fix something, or kill someone. The choice is in how it’s used, and it only stretches so far. If you want to see people fed, clothed, taught, roads and bridges built and repaired, vote that way. If you want to trample on the sovereignty of other nations, march more young people past roadside bombs that wouldn’t be there if we hadn’t been on an interventionist crusade, vote that way. Just know that it’s socialism, regardless of whether the taxes go to promote life or death.
