Sustaining life with the lifeless

I eat fast food a few times a week. Today I went through the drive-thru and bought a burger. I took a bite of it while sitting in my car. Somewhere between the taste and the smell a rather curious thought invaded my mind, which was on several other things at the time.

‘This food is dead.’

After staring at the thing for a few seconds, and after a few more bites, I tossed about half. I didn’t feel nauseous. The whole ordeal was just unappetizing.

This was my intuition talking, and I’m listening now. So I guess this means I’ll be fumbling in the direction of a more vegetarian diet. I’m sure my doctors will be pleased, and my body, after many protests, will get on board.

Step one is weaning myself off of fast food. The burgers, the fries, the onion rings, the hush puppies, the cheese curds, the fish, the scrimps, the chicken, the occasional shakes, all of it has to go. Fresher things will have to take its place.

It’s not going to be easy. The cravings will get kinda loud. And I’m sure I’ll slip several times along the way, and that’s okay.

I have set up a separate email address, Google+, and YouTube channel to accompany the blog.

I’m uploading the first short video to YT right now. I’ll probably copy my content from the Raymond Gilford channel and post to both in the future. Once I get Zoho configured I’ll add a new email but we can use this one for now.

Changes at Alien Survival

There’s been a lot going on in my life since I started this blog back in November. Because of that my productivity has fallen off quite a bit. This blog has become an afterthought when the original goal was to build a readership and attract sponsors.

First, to those who have visited here more or less regularly, I apologize. This is important to me and needs to be as much a priority as the other things cluttering up my life demanding attention.

I recently learned that I made the same mistake most people here on blogger make, namely jumping into monetizing way too early. Therefore the Adsense ads have been removed and I don’t know that they’ll ever be back. I am keeping the two book banners: It’s a Disaster and What Are You Going To Do About It? and Making the Best of Basics on the blog as well as whatever the latest patch or craft item I have for sale. The rest of income generation will have to wait while we produce content for the readers. I will continue to cover preparedness, astronomy, space aliens and related literature and films. Until I get the plan solidified things may appear a bit haphazard but we will be posting something every day.

I decided a few days ago to change the direction of this blog. I’ve had some significant things happen to me personally and I see clearly that I have to create a brand and a business out of my online endeavors. Developing brand is not easy and especially to do so in a sustainable way. I made some money a few years ago writing ad posts on a blog and things looked good for a while until “The Googler” showed up and took away my page rank. I won’t attempt to do that here and I really don’t want the content on this blog drowning in ad widgets. So I’ll be working on better ways to bring in money.

In order to make this blog worth a few bucks a month to folks who are willing and able to invest there has to be a much clearer mission and focus to it. We’ll be looking at alien survival from two points of view. The first is where the aliens come or are already here and our task is surviving them. The second is where the alien lands and has to use survival skills to escape notice, fit in, etc.

There are eight alien roles that I want us to focus on to begin with. I’ll be doing this more ore less weekly with a plan on moving it to a daily focus. I’m basing this list on movies I’ve seen and books I’ve read. If you can think of any other, feel free to contact me:

  1. Alien Messiah
  2. Alien Conqueror
  3. Alien Experimenter/Scientist
  4. Alien as Friendly Visitor
  5. Aliens at war with Earth as a base
  6. Aliens at war and Earth is in the way
  7. Aliens as God/Creator

As we approach these our assumption is that it has already happened and our task is to survive and help those around us to survive. Survive means being alive, awake, free, fed, hydrated and healthy.

I’ll do product reviews and keep you posted on other things that are going on.
